As informs newspaper “Kommersant”, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova commented on the new aspects of Russian-Belarusian military-technical cooperation in connection with the need for Moscow and Minsk to comply with the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
According to the diplomat, measures to ensure the security of the Union State are “a forced reaction to the purposeful development of NATO’s long-term practice of ‘joint nuclear missions’. However, all of them are being implemented in strict accordance with the obligations under the NPT.
“We are talking exclusively about the transfer to the Republic of Belarus of the dual-equipment Iskander-M complexes with missiles in conventional equipment, as well as giving some of the Belarusian Su-25 aircraft the technical ability to carry nuclear weapons. At the same time, the technologies for converting aircraft into carriers of nuclear weapons cannot be transferred planned,” Zakharova said.
