Zakharova linked Borrell's words about the Russian economy with envy and helplessness

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell called Russia an “economic dwarf” out of envy and helplessness, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

Earlier in an interview with El Pais, a European official declaredthat “the real geopolitical player” is only China, and Russia is more “like a gas station, the owner of which has an atomic bomb.”

“All this was said by Borrell out of envy and helplessness… The EU is like a bankrupt who went bankrupt, having stopped refueling with quality fuel within his means,” told Zakharova in a TASS comment.

Commenting on Borrell’s words about nuclear weapons, Zakharova noted that of all the EU countries, only one was able to produce them.

“There is nothing to be proud of, so they come out with anger,” she added.

Earlier in early August Borrell declaredthat Russia, by offering grain at reduced prices to developing countries, makes them dependent on its products. In his assessment, such actions are “a cynical policy of deliberate use of food as a weapon.”

In June, the EU officially put into effect 11th package of sanctions against Russia. 87 organizations allegedly supporting the military-industrial complex of Russia, as well as against 100 individuals, including the military, journalists, businessmen, etc., fell under the restrictions. Some media outlets were also banned: Tsargrad, RT Balkan, New Eastern Outlook, Oriental Review and “Katehon”. The EU banned the transportation of oil through the northern branch of the Druzhba pipeline (to Poland and Germany).
