Moscow drew attention to the statements of Japanese officials, in particular, Cabinet Secretary General Hirokazu Matsuno and Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi about the safety of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in the light of the fakes spread by the Kiev regime about the “Russian provocation” allegedly being prepared there. Moscow is surprised by the categoricalness with which Tokyo operates with baseless rumors, the official said and suggested that Japanese politicians stop trying to find a speck in another’s eye, not noticing the beam in their own.
Zakharova reminded Japan of its problems in the field of nuclear safety and recalled the situation with the discharge of radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
The accident at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima occurred in March 2011 as a result of the strongest earthquake in the history of Japan and the tsunami that followed it. She received the highest, seventh, level on the International Nuclear Event Scale. About 164 thousand people were evacuated from the contaminated territories.
In the summer of 2023, it became known about the plans of the Japanese authorities to dump the water accumulated at the affected nuclear power plant in Fukushima into the sea.
