New Canadian sanctions against Russia can be compared with the policy of the Third Reich, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
Earlier, Ottawa announced the introduction of a new package of sanctions against Russia. They touched the Russia Today media group, as well as a dozen other structures and 38 individuals. They are accused of “disinformation and propaganda”. Cultural figures, such as Nikolai Baskov, Mikhail Boyarsky, Oleg Gazmanov, Nadezhda Babkina, Irina Allegrova and others, as well as journalists, also fell under the sanctions.
“Canadian sanctions against Russian journalists and artists are comparable to an attempt by the Third Reich to destroy the “non-German spirit” and drown out the voice of reason through the burning of books and the ban on periodicals,” Zakharova wrote.
She also recalled that Deputy Prime Minister of Canada Chrystia Freeland is the granddaughter of the famous Nazi propagandist Mikhailo Khomyak, and her grandfather “could be proud of her.”
Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Canada Oleg Stepanov announced Moscow’s response to new sanctions from Ottawa. He also recalled that any sanctions not approved by the UN Security Council are not legal, but Western countries do not remember this.
