Zakharova called outrageous the lack of a UN response to Budanov’s statements

The lack of reaction from the UN to the statements of the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov about the agency’s involvement in terrorist attacks against Russian media people is outrageous. Such a statement did Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Sputnik radio.

“To this absolutely clear, frontal recognition of the UN – not in the form of a collective of countries, but in the form of its secretariat – could not give any answer. [Представитель генерального секретаря ООН] Stéphane Dujarric stated that he had not seen such a statement. It’s outrageous. <...> There is no excuse for the UN Secretariat,” she said.

According to Zakharova, Dujarric’s words speak either of his unprofessionalism or bias. She did not rule out that the problem could also be in the “poor work of the information department of the UN secretariat.” The diplomat called the incident “an outrageous fact of unprofessionalism” and added that this case requires investigation by the UN Secretariat.

The day before, on May 16, the head of the main intelligence department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, in an interview with Ukrainian blogger Sergei Ivanov declaredthat Kyiv “got many”, including public and media personalities. Thus, he answered the question of whether Kyiv could “get” the Russian journalist Vladimir Solovyov or the philosopher Alexander Dugin. To a clarifying question whether the goal of his structure was the Russian writer Zakhar Prilepin, Budanov said that he could not confirm or refute this information.

Commenting on Budanov’s statement, the representative of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said that he could not speak about the reliability of reports about this, since he did not see the quote. “We, of course, oppose any terrorist acts,” emphasized He.

Earlier in an interview with Yahoo News, Budanov, commenting on the issue of Kyiv’s involvement in the murder of journalist Daria Dugina, said that Ukraine “killed and will continue to kill Russians anywhere in the world until the country’s complete victory.”

In the Kremlin called Budanov’s statements were unprecedented and expressed confidence in Kyiv’s involvement in the killings of Russians. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov emphasizedthat the Kremlin will monitor the reaction of “European capitals” and especially Washington to such words.
