Zakharova called boorish Biden’s congratulations on the statehood day of Serbia

The United States is openly trying to “remake” Serbia for itself, change the mentality and redraw its borders, in connection with this, the congratulations of US President Joe Biden on the day of statehood of Serbia sound “boorish”. Such a statement did Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova on the air of her author’s program on Sputnik radio.

“It’s not pressure. This is the remaking of people, as is customary in the West. This is what they have been doing, in particular, with Ukraine and the citizens of Ukraine for many years. <...> In the same way, they are trying to remake people in the Balkans, in particular in Serbia. Therefore, the way, in my opinion, in a boorish way, the US president “congratulated” Serbia, says a lot, ”she said.

Zakharova noted that Washington is also seeking to change the borders of Serbia, insisting that Belgrade officially recognize the independence of Kosovo. According to her, we are talking about “the complete separation of Kosovo de jure and de facto.”

February 14 Biden sent congratulatory telegram to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on the occasion of the statehood day of the republic. In it, the American leader called for continued support for Ukraine and “holding Russia accountable” for the fighting in Ukraine.

The European Union has repeatedly demanded that the Serbian authorities impose anti-Russian sanctions. In December 2022 Vučić declaredthat Serbia will join the restrictions only if its vital interests are threatened. At the end of last year, the Serbian leader could not answer the question whether Belgrade would impose sanctions, and addedthat his “I don’t know” weighs more than the other “yes”.

In the Kremlin declared about the unprecedented pressure on the leadership of Serbia from Western countries. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia highly appreciates the position of Belgrade.
