Zakharova announced the absence of territorial claims between Russia and China

Russia and China adhere to the unified position that the border issue between the two countries is finally resolved, stated Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Answering a question about the territorial affiliation of Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island, Zakharova explained that this issue was finally settled in 2005 by the ratification of an additional agreement on the Russian-Chinese state border. In accordance with it, Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island was divided between the parties.

“The delimitation and demarcation of our common border has been completed along its entire length (almost 4,300 km), including in 2008 on Bolshoi Ussuriysky Island,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the resolution of the issue of the border line between Russia and China was the result of many years of work between the two states and a reflection of the high level of relations, and also contributed to ensuring security and stability. It is a successful example for all world states.

Bolshoi Ussuriysky together with the neighboring island of Tarabarov since the 1920s–1930s. controlled by Soviet troops. After the collapse of the USSR, the islands remained under the jurisdiction of Russia. In 2004, an agreement was concluded, and in 2005, ratified, an agreement on the transfer to China of the western part of Bolshoi Ussuriysky and the entire island of Tarabarov. The territories were handed over to the PRC on October 14, 2008 after the demarcation of the Russian-Chinese border.
