Zakharov called Armenian policy an attempt to sit on two chairs

Armenia wants to maintain membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, while ignoring the interests of Russia, stated official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova during the next briefing, noting the duality of Yerevan’s policy.

“If this is an attempt to sit on two chairs, then it certainly didn’t bring anyone any good,” the diplomat warned.

Zakharova emphasized that Moscow considers Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s refusal to participate in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) summit in Minsk, the expansion of supplies of Western weapons and sudden attempts to establish friendship with Ukraine as “links in the same chain.”

“The West, whose plans in the Ukrainian direction have completely failed, has grabbed Armenia with the same beastly grip, trying to tear it away from Russia,” summed up the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On November 14, Pashinyan, during a telephone conversation with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, said that he would not be able to attend the CSTO meeting. He also expressed hope that members of the organization “will understand this decision.” Prior to this, Pashinyan refused to participate in the Council of CIS Heads of State, which was held on October 13 in Bishkek.
