The draft law submitted today to the State Duma for consideration banning the use of symbols from any alphabets other than Cyrillic in advertising materials will not apply to the unofficial symbols of support for hostilities in Ukraine Z and V. The author of the bill, Senator Olga Kovitidi, said that the document was aimed primarily at commercial area.
“The use of these symbols in social advertising today does not contradict our draft law, since it is primarily aimed at regulating the text of advertising in the commercial sphere,” commented Ms. Kovitidi URA.RU.
Earlier today, senators Sergei Tsekov and Olga Kovitidi submitted to the lower house of parliament bill, which implies a ban on the use of characters not from the Cyrillic alphabet in advertising. According to Mr. Tsekov, foreign languages ”belittle and humiliate” Russia. He also invited Russians to ask themselves why the names of restaurants on the streets of Russian cities are not written in Cyrillic.
A similar bill was prepared in the State Duma in June of this year – a document assumed a ban on the placement of advertising signs in foreign languages.
