Lev Leshchenko spent the whole day with Alexandra Pakhmutova and, of course, also went on stage at the farewell ceremony to say a few words.
“…He surrounded how many talented people with his attention, how many he brought to the high road, but most importantly, he was our teacher. He taught to love, to be friends, to notice the real thing that was in the country at that time. It is impossible to imagine the wonderful pages of our history without the songs of Alexandra Nikolaevna and Nikolai Nikolaevich. Probably, not a single important event in our life has passed without his poems: with him we remember Gagarin, the Olympic bear, whom we loved with all our hearts. He loved people, the Fatherland and selflessly his dear person Alexandra Pakhmutov. No wonder the song appeared: “You are my melody,” which he dedicated to Alexandra Nikolaev. He was in every family; there is no home or corner where their songs were not known. There were such small, flexible records, and the endlessly amazing songs of this wonderful duo sounded. Probably, all this was born because he put his life postulates into his work. Nikolai Nikolaevich was our teacher, we learned from him to love and be decent in this life. I don’t know how the Lord God will accept him, but we loved him endlessly, and I hope that the Lord will accept him with the same love with which we treated him.”
Zara: “They are the guardian angels of our country”
Singer Zara was one of the first who came to honor the memory of Nikolai Dobronravov. The artist said that she was on good terms with her spouses Alexandra Pakhmutova and Nikolai Dobronravov, and they trusted her to perform their songs.
“I am a happy artist, I was allowed into the house of such wonderful, brilliant people. I am not afraid of this word: they are the guardian angels of our country, they are so close to each of us: so dear, so dear. One day they invited me to their place and entrusted me with the song “Vera”. It was performed very rarely, but later this performance stuck with me. At the same time, they analyzed every phrase. There are lines: “There is love, and there is sadness. The rest is a lie.” It was probably only over time that I began to realize the depth of this phrase. And, of course, today I could not help but come and honor the memory of Nikolai Nikolaevich. I’m very worried about Alexandra Nikolaevna, because indeed, when she started talking, he picked up, when he started, she picked up. They were one. Their children are their songs. They will stay with us forever. They shaped us, made us better, cleaner, brighter. And I hope that my children and my grandchildren will grow up with these works.”
Sergei PENKIN: “It was a good Soviet family”
Sergei Penkin admitted that in such a situation he does not even find the right words to describe his emotions.
“A man with a capital M has left. You can’t even say too many words—they simply won’t be enough. I really wanted today’s youth to listen to these songs, and not what is happening now on our stage. People are leaving who cannot be replaced by anyone. And another important indicator – Alexandra Nikolaevna lived with her husband for almost 70 years together. They were a good Soviet family.”
Leonid ROSHAL: “He doesn’t have a single honorary title today”
Dr. Roshal was presented at the funeral ceremony as a family friend. He completed his farewell to Nikolai Dobronravov. Addressing Pakhmutova, Roshal was very sincere: “You have lost the opportunity to physically communicate with Kolya, this is difficult to underestimate, but we will try to do everything possible to brighten up your grief. Of course, this is impossible, but there are relatives and a brother who sits here.” Roshal recalled how many years ago he and Rozhdestvensky met abroad: “At one or two in the morning we went to the negotiation point to talk with Moscow. We were not connected for a long time, and we talked about literature, about songs. At that time, a crowd of Mongolian youth was walking past, and I said: “Guys, stop! Tell me, which Russian composers and songwriters do you know?” To Rozhdestvensky’s surprise, they said: “To Pakhmutov and Dobronravov.” Leonid Mikhailovich also shared the emotions he feels from the songs of Pakhmutova and Dobronravov: “The song “Tired Submarine” can’t get out of my head, it’s been spinning in my head all day… There’s so much magic and feelings!” Roshal complained that Dobronravov has few titles from Russia: “He doesn’t have a single honorary title today, but everything can be done posthumously. This won’t add anything to him, but there is a feeling of necessity.” At the end, he very heartfeltly finished his speech: “May he rest in peace! But we will meet, I don’t say goodbye, I don’t say goodbye. We’ll all meet there.” His last words were addressed to Alexandra Nikolaevna Pakhmutova: “Alenka, take care of yourself… We all really need you.”
Producer Yuri AKSYUTA: “I was already sick, but I was in good spirits”
The music producer said that Nikolai Dobronravov tried not to lose heart even when he was no longer feeling very well.
“A very kind, incredibly talented and brilliant person has passed away. These are platitudes, but we will miss him. Without him, the country was orphaned. My favorite song of his is “Tenderness”. This is a song that is written to last. And, thank God, it will remain for other generations. It seems to me that it is simply impossible to write it like that. This is written with the heart.
The last time we met with Nikolai Nikolaevich was several months ago, we just usually talked by phone. Nikolai Nikolaevich was already ill, but still he was a man of good mood, cheerful in spirit. He joked, talked, read his poems. It was incredibly touching. Although, of course, everyone understands that life moves inexorably forward, we are all getting old. And I will also say that he is a great poet, not even just a songwriter, I have read his poems and have an idea about them.”
Vladislav TRETYAK: “The athletes came to say words of gratitude to him”
The legendary hockey player brought a huge bouquet of roses.
“Today we mourn with all the people who love music, poetry and sports. And the song “Cowards Don’t Play Hockey” became an anthem, because these words called our hockey players into battle, and to these words, to this music, we won a lot in the Soviet Union. We hope that Russian hockey will continue to move forward under the same anthem. In 1980, the whole world cried to this music, to these poems. Nikolai Nikolaevich was a true patriot of our country, so today the athletes came to say words of gratitude to him for what he did for us, for our sport and for our people.”
