Yulia Galyamina announced the cessation of public activities – Kommersant

Former municipal deputy Yulia Galyamina (declared a foreign agent) stated that she would stop writing on social networks and giving interviews for a short time. She made this decision after the Telegram channel Brief citing sources close to law enforcement agencies, he said that a criminal case could be filed against her.

One of the interlocutors of the Telegram channel said that a case would be opened against Ms. Galyamina if she became the main public coordinator of the action to bring protest voters to the polling stations at the same time during the Russian presidential elections. According to the source, the “last straw” for the security forces could have been a blog post by opposition leader Alexei Navalny that he would ask to organize “coalition support” for the former deputy in carrying out such an action.

Another Brief interlocutor stated that a criminal case against Ms. Galyamina could be opened “on a cumulative basis,” taking into account the fact that she previously collaborated with the Anti-Corruption Foundation (a liquidated foreign agent, the organization was recognized as extremist, its activities are prohibited).

Ms. Galyamina stated in her Telegram channel that she regards the Brief publication as a warning. According to her, before the previous criminal case she was warned in a similar way. Then, in December 2020, the politician received a two-year suspended sentence under the article on repeated violation of the rules for holding rallies (Article 212.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

The ex-deputy emphasized that she still does not intend to leave Russia, and that she is not afraid of ending up in a colony and has long prepared for this. At the same time, she said that she sees no point in trying to get into a colony, “disregarding the danger.” “My silence does not mean that I am giving up politics, leaving the country or going on “vacation.” It has another meaning, which I’m sure you will all understand,” wrote Ms. Galyamina.

At the beginning of September 2022, the Ministry of Justice declared Ms. Galyamina a foreign agent. In the summer of 2020, she participated in a rally against amendments to the Constitution, after which a criminal case was opened against her, for which she received a suspended sentence. In 2017-2019, Ms. Galyamina was a municipal deputy of the Timiryazevsky district of Moscow.
