At a presentation in Los Angeles, an American software company showed the public a dress that can change color and print at the touch of a button. Movable screens are attached to the fabric, which, upon command, will play an animation via a wireless connection. And thanks to built-in touch sensors, the color of the dress changes when you move.

The new technology is another step towards the development of environmentally friendly fashion, says Sergei Vikulin, director of the Raschini fashion house:

“The production costs of this kind of models are estimated at seven figures, but this makes the technology accessible to the widest masses, who will be able to create various dynamic images using the same item of clothing.

This is a unique thing, it is included in the concept of sustainable development. By buying one dress, you can create different designs and appliqués on it every day. At the same time, fashion designers will still work on the design of such clothes, just in a different format.

Of course, from the point of view of the traditional approach, this dress has more hype and technology than any artistic component. After all, fashion is based on more fundamental, conservative values. But I am sure that all this will change in the near future.”

The presentation of the dress became part of the Project Primrose project. Adobe announced it back in 2022. In a press release, the company stated that the goal of the developments is to blur the boundaries between technology and fashion, turning clothes into canvases for creativity. However, dresses with displays are unlikely to appear in mass production, says fashion assortment management expert Galina Kravchenko:

“The move Adobe is making is absolutely justified, but not new. Many companies demonstrate their know-how through a fashion product. Fashion is an industry that is the first to sell innovation. This is an excellent news story, and it is now spreading across all social networks.

Dresses from Adobe are very reminiscent of Paco Rabanne’s designs, which are assembled from metal blocks. Of course, wearing such clothes every day is problematic. However, we will see similar dresses on the carpet. They will not be available to the general public, but some ideas will be interpreted by the mass market.”

In 2022, at the show of the French brand Coprni, they presented a dress that can be sprayed onto the body from a spray can. The liquid solidified and turned into fabric.
