North Korea may have 15-60 nuclear warheads, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency. Conclusions are drawn on the basis of data from foreign experts against the backdrop of a statement by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The North Korean leader recently announced the need to increase the country’s number of nuclear warheads.
According to the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (USA), as of September, the DPRK supposedly had 20-30 nuclear warheads ready for medium-range missiles.
The Institute for National Strategic Studies at the US National Defense Institute stated that as of November 2020, Pyongyang had 15-60 nuclear charges.
The Stockholm Peace Research Institute, in turn, reported in June 2022: North Korea has 20 charges. The country, according to the institute, has materials available – uranium-235 and plutonium-239 – to create another 45-55 pieces.
Japanese experts from the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition, in a report on nuclear materials, reported that North Korea had 40 warheads as of the same June.
Kim Jong-un at the sixth plenum of the Workers’ Party of Korea of the eighth convocation announced the need to strengthen nuclear forces, mass production of nuclear warheads, and create a new system of intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of an instant counterattack.
