Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle reported that the performance of works of Russian ballet is prohibited in Ukraine. Ukrainians call this a means of Russia’s “soft power.”

According to the publication, after the start of the special operation, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture demanded a boycott of Russian culture. In particular, after this, the National Opera in Kyiv was banned from performing works by the Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

“Prima ballerina of the National Opera of Ukraine Victoria Zvarich performed the main role in the ballet Swan Lake hundreds of times. Now she won’t be able to do this,” the broadcaster’s story notes.

According to Zvarich herself, ballet is “one of the most powerful means of soft power” in Russia.

“In Ukraine, people say: ballet comes first, and tanks follow,” Zvarich noted.
