Yevgeny Roizman pleaded not guilty in court in the case of discrediting the army

The Oktyabrsky District Court of Yekaterinburg today, April 26, began considering a criminal case against the former mayor of the city, Yevgeny Roizman (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation), accused of discrediting the Russian army (part 1 of article 280.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). At the trial, he said that he did not admit guilt.
“All the risks are clear, the article is up to three years. (Mood.- “b”) is normal. I understand everything,” Mr. Roizman told reporters before the meeting (quote from Interfax).
The case was opened in August 2022. According to investigators, the former mayor committed illegal acts by posting the video “Answers to Your Questions” on YouTube, where he expressed a negative opinion about the military operation in Ukraine. By a court decision, he is forbidden to use the Internet and telephone, as well as attend public places and events. Politician’s lawyers called viewers of his live broadcast to testify at the trial.
