Yekaterinburg police came to a closed BDSM party at the Fabrika club. Security forces checked 270 visitors to the establishment and drew up several administrative protocols. At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk region called the incident a “planned preventive raid” and promised more such inspections.
Blue Velvet parties have been held by Yekaterinburg resident Stanislav Slovikovsky for several years now. On the night of February 4, a party with BDSM elements Blue Velvet: Asia was supposed to take place at the local club “Fabrika”. The head of the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Sverdlovsk Region, Valery Gorelykh, said that “this was a regular planned preventive raid aimed at stabilizing the operational situation in the capital of the Middle Urals.”
According to him, police and other security forces checked 270 visitors to the establishment. The result of the raid was administrative protocols on improper performance of parental responsibilities (Article 5.35 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation) against the parents of two minors found in the institution. Three people were suspected of drug use; they refused to undergo a medical examination and were fined. Also, traffic police officers drew up ten administrative protocols; Mr. Gorelykh did not disclose the details of the traffic cops’ complaints against the visitors of the BDSM party.
“Yes, there really was a raid. The last party is an event organized by Stanislav Slovikowski. The Fabrika club was rented by him as a venue. A standard rental agreement was concluded with the organizer,” representatives of the club told Kommersant. “Comments on the raid can be obtained from the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and on the content of the party – from its organizer Stanislav Slovikovsky.”
“The results of the raid are analyzed to take action against the organization,” noted Valery Gorelykh. He said that similar raids “will continue on a regular basis” in other municipalities of the Sverdlovsk region.
The police carried out routine crime prevention in public places, says lawyer and former employee of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs Sergei Kolosovsky: “The fact that this place of mass gathering was focused on BDSM simply added public accents. But in fact, the protocols were drawn up according to the traditional elements of administrative offenses aimed at violations of public order.”
However, Georgy Krasnov, a representative of the Lawguard advocacy group, believes that the purpose of such raids is to “sow fear” among people participating in events related to the topic of sex.
“People need to understand that at events with a sexualized theme, they risk being interrupted at the most interesting moment. They run the risk of being rewritten, photographed and posted in police channels,” he stated. At the same time, the lawyer emphasized that BDSM practices are not prohibited in Russia if they take place between adults and do not contain “LGBT propaganda.”
Let us recall that in July 2023, the Moscow region police interrupted the BDSM festival Fishing, which was attended by more than 500 people. The event has been reported to have been held outdoors since 2010; The reason for police intervention was a complaint from the Orthodox movement “Forty Sorokov”. The next day, the district administration held a gathering of active pensioners at the site of the BDSM festival.
