From May 5, 2023″Yandex” will introduce restrictions on the use of the Yandex ID password in third-party mail applications, calendars and Disk clients. The company announced this as part of a customer mailing list.
According to the company, this solution is aimed at improving the security of user accounts. So, using different passwords, the probability of account hacking is lower.
“On May 5, 2023, we close the ability to use an account password”Yandex ID” in third-party mail applications, calendars and clients to “Yandex Disk”, which are connected via POP3 / IMAP / SMTP / WebDAV / CalDAV protocols,” Yandex reported.
The POP3, IMAP, and SMTP protocols are used for email. With their help, you can connect Yandex mail to a third-party application, such as Outlook or Thunderbird. The WebDAV protocol is needed to access the cloud storage, and CalDAV is needed to access the calendar.
To continue using third-party clients, you need to create a separate password for each such application in the Yandex ID settings. At the same time, it should not be repeated with the password from the account itself in Yandex.
Vedomosti sent a request to Yandex.
“The use of a password from Yandex for authorization on other services is being closed gradually. This process began in early April and will last for several months until such authorization is closed for everyone. At each stage, it is disabled for several tens of thousands of users,” Yandex stressed.
The company said that it warns users of all changes and sends detailed instructions on how to proceed.
