Yandex resumed work on unmanned vehicles abroad under the Avride brand

The international part of Yandex has resumed work in its autonomous vehicle division under the new Avride brand. writes TASS.

With reference to foreign registers of legal entities, the agency clarifies that Yandex Self Driving Group has been renamed Avride until June 2023.

Avride’s website says the company is a leading developer in the autonomous vehicle industry, with a team of several hundred engineers, many of whom worked at Yandex. Avride’s journey began in 2017. The company is said to be behind the launch of Europe’s first autonomous taxi service without a driver at the wheel.

Yandex Self Driving Group was founded in 2020. The company’s divisions were opened in Massachusetts and Michigan in the USA. In April 2023 reported on registration of a legal entity in Austin, Texas.

Yandex“began producing unmanned vehicles in 2017, and the first tests on city streets began the following year – then the drones were plying around Moscow and Innopolis (Tatarstan). Summer 2023 Yandex launched robotaxi testing in one of the Moscow districts.

In November 2022 Yandex informed about plans to divide the group’s assets. Some businesses, including autonomous cars, cloud technologies, etc., will continue to operate in Russia, but their international parts will be separated into independent companies managed by a company in the Netherlands.
