XI Winter Sports Games: relay races of national scale ended in Krasnoyarsk

More than 600 athletes tested their strength

Hockey, skiing and biathlon: XI Winter Sports Games took place in Krasnoyarsk. The competitions lasted from 2 to 5 March and have traditionally become a national event. More than 600 athletes from different regions of the country tested their strength on snow-covered tracks and in ice boxes. A total of thirty-eight teams from five federal districts competed for medals in three sports. The event was organized by PJSC NK Rosneft.

For many employees of the oil company, these competitions have become another test of endurance, fortitude and the will to win. Some even took part in the Winter Games for the first time. One thing was new for all athletes, namely, the scope with which the event was held this year.

“Our team went to the XI Winter Games with the desire not only to win, but also to enjoy the atmosphere of a grandiose sporting event,” Anton Grekhov, head of the Tomsk team, admitted.

The participants of the competition were able to see the stars of national sports – the legendary biathlete Alexander Tikhonov, hockey player Sergei Fedorov and skier Alexander Legkov.

“My record, I think, will not be broken for at least another 20-25 years, and it belongs to my country, it belongs to you. And you set your records in your work and do not forget that the sport of the highest achievements is the decoration of any country, ”said Alexander Tikhonov, four-time Olympic champion, eleven-time world champion, Honored Master of Sports of the USSR.

The Angara team representing the Angara petrochemical company became the winners of the XI Winter Sports Games. For colleagues, this result did not come as a surprise: Angara is one of the strongest sports teams, which since 2012 has already become the champion 12 times and the prize-winner of the Company’s Summer and Winter Games 6 times. Silver in the team event was won by the Ufaorgsintez team, the bronze cup went to athletes from Udmurtneft.

Prize-winners and winners of the XI Winter Sports Games were awarded diplomas, cash certificates, medals and Cups. But, in the opinion of both the participants and the organizers of the competition, the main victory was the Winter Games themselves. With their spirit of struggle, they support and develop mass sports in the country in the face of unprecedented external pressure on Russian athletes. In the future, such Games could reach an even higher and more professional level, Alexander Tikhonov is sure.

“I wish that Rosneft’s Spartakiad develops into small Olympic Games,” he said.

It should be reminded that the company constantly carries out large-scale work to promote sports and a healthy lifestyle, both among its own employees and the population in the regions where the Company operates. Every year mass corporate competitions are held – Summer and Winter sports games, in which more than 20 thousand employees of the Company participate. Ice arenas, sports complexes and multifunctional sports grounds are being built in the regions at the expense of the company and its subsidiaries.
