Xi Jinping called for an early resumption of talks on Ukraine

China is ready, together with France, to call on the world community to resume peace talks on Ukraine as soon as possible, Chinese President Xi Jinping said after talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.

“China is ready to cooperate with France, urging the international community to resume peace talks as soon as possible, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, consider the legitimate security interests of all parties, seek a political solution (of the crisis), and build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security structure,” – quotes the words of Xi China Central Television (cit. by RIA Novosti)

Earlier today, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning statedthat the US and NATO should be held responsible for the crisis in Ukraine. “The North Atlantic Alliance does not have the necessary status to reproach China or put pressure on it,” she said. Mao added that China was originally in favor of facilitating peace talks on Ukraine, and history will judge who “really took a fair and correct position.”

On February 24, China presented its plan to get out of the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that China’s proposal is more like “expressing thoughts ‘ than on the peace plan. He added that such an initiative is unrealizable without a clause on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine. After that, Zelensky repeatedly stated his desire to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

At the end of March, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov declaredthat the goals of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine will be achieved by military means, because due to the position of Ukraine, it is impossible to do this by means of diplomacy. The Kremlin spokesman stressed that it is important for Russia to fulfill all its requirements, including the security of the population of new regions and the country as a whole, “in a broader context.”

At the end of February in the Kremlin spokethat they do not see the prerequisites for the conflict in Ukraine to go into a “peaceful direction”. Then Peskov said that Moscow “is moving towards achieving the goals that have been set.”

Peskov has repeatedly pointed out the impossibility of negotiations with Ukraine due to Kyiv’s refusal at the legislative level to dialogue with Moscow.
