Xi at a meeting in the Kremlin expressed confidence in Putin’s re-election in 2024

Chinese President Xi Jinping, in his welcoming speech at an informal meeting with President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin, expressed confidence that “the Russian people will support you” in the presidential elections in 2024.
“I know that another presidential election will take place in your country next year. Thanks to your … leadership, in recent years Russia has made significant progress in achieving the success and prosperity of the country. I am sure that the Russian people will strongly support you in your good undertakings,”— declared Mr Xi.
The Kremlin noted that the President of China did not talk about the participation of Mr. Putin in the 2024 elections. The corresponding words of the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov leads TASS. He noted that Xi Jinping’s confidence in the Russians’ support for Vladimir Putin can only be shared.
Mr. Putin was first elected President of Russia in 2000, and was re-elected in 2004, 2012 and 2018.
The possibility of re-election of Vladimir Putin as president is spelled out in the updated Constitution. It was adopted in the summer of 2020 following a referendum.
Next presidential election in Russia should take place March 17, 2024. As “Kommersant” found out in the Kremlin started preparing to the electoral cycle in January 2023.
