Xavi resigns as Barcelona head coach – Kommersant

The head coach of the Spanish football club Barcelona, Xavi, announced that he will resign from his post at the end of the current season. He has led the team since November 2021.
“On June 30 I will leave the club. I made this decision with the president and with the staff. <...> I think the club needs to change the dynamics, the dynamics are very negative,” Xavi said (quoted by AFP). He noted that even if the club wins the Champions League, he will not remain in his post.
Javi is 44 years old. He has been a Barcelona footballer since he was 11 years old. He played in the main team from 1998 to 2015. In 2015–2019 he played for the Qatari Al-Sadd, after which he retired from football. In 2019–2021, he worked as the head coach of the Qatari club, after which he was appointed to a similar position at Barcelona. Under his leadership, the club became champion and winner of the Spanish Super Cup (2023).
In 2024, Barcelona lost to Real Madrid with a score of 1:4 in the Super Cup match. In addition, the team conceded five goals in La Liga at home for the first time since 1963 in another match. The club is in third place in the standings and is 10 points behind Real Madrid.
