WWF terminates relationship with WWF after declaring organization undesirable

The World Wide Fund for Nature (formerly WWF Russia, recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) has terminated relations with the international World Wide Fund for Nature (World Wildlife Fund, WWF) due to the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office to recognize WWF’s activities as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation. The report also says that the World Wide Fund for Nature has suspended the agreement on the use of the “Panda” logo and the acronym “WWF”.
The day before the Prosecutor General’s Office acknowledged WWF activities are undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation. The agency explained its decision by the fact that the organization “forms economic threats” to Russia. In particular, it was noted that the World Wide Fund for Nature interferes with the government’s plans for the industrial development of the Arctic and is trying to “move the Northern Sea Route towards the US economic zone” under the guise of environmental protection.
The World Wide Fund for Nature was included in the register of foreign agents of the Ministry of Justice on March 10. Representatives of environmental and environmental organizations applied to President Vladimir Putin with a request to reconsider the decision of the Ministry of Justice, but the organization is still on the list of foreign agents.
At the end of May, the Prosecutor General’s Office recognized the activities of another environmental organization, Greenpeace, as undesirable. After that, the Russian branch of Greenpeace announced about the closure.
