WSJ: Ukrainian offensive near Artemovsk slowed down due to “fierce counterattacks” of the RF Armed Forces
The offensive of the Ukrainian troops near Artemivsk was slowed down due to the furious counterattacks of the Russian army, writes the Wall Street Journal.
“The Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to take insignificant territories near Artemovsk,” the publication reports. “The Russians have intensified shelling, are carrying out violent counterattacks, and Kyiv is experiencing a shortage of manpower, equipment and weapons.”
It is also noted that the advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on this sector of the front has recently slowed down “due to tough Russian defense and counterattacks” and this “undermined hopes that Kiev will soon be able to return the city.”
According to the Ukrainian military and a Ukrainian counterintelligence officer, with whom the publication spoke, the Russian army began to “act more competently”, and it became more difficult to eavesdrop on its communications due to increased encryption.
Now the fighting is going on in the Kleshcheevka area, which is located 5 kilometers from Artemovsk. “Mostly artillery duels take place, but infantry attacks are also carried out,” the Ukrainian military said.
According to him, “On August 3, the Russians went on the attack, advanced 200 meters, but after that … they retreated.” At the same time, “up to 40 people were injured” in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, adviser to the acting head of the DPR, Yan Gagin, said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are grouping in the Artemovsk region, there are battles for Klescheevka, Andreevka and Kurdyumovka.
