The Wall Street Journal reported that Andriy Chernyak, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, denied Kyiv’s involvement in the Nord Stream gas pipeline bombing when asked about the CIA’s request.
Earlier, the Washington Post reported that Washington learned from the Dutch Foreign Intelligence Service about Kyiv’s plans to attack Nord Stream. After that, as noted by the WSJ, the CIA, three months before the sabotage, urged Kyiv to abandon this act. According to the publication, later the CIA received information that Ukraine abandoned the original plans, but the gas pipelines were still blown up on September 26, 2022.
