This week, Washington will impose sanctions against about 200 Russian individuals and entities. About it informs The Wall Street Journal, citing a source familiar with the situation.

As the newspaper notes, Washington and its allies are seeking to limit Moscow’s access to products that can strengthen the Russian defense and technology sector. It is noted that the new sanctions are part of a package of measures against Russia in connection with the anniversary of the start of the special operation in Ukraine. It also includes US military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $460 million.

According to the newspaper, governors and family members of Russian officials may be included in the “black list”, and new restrictions will also affect enterprises of the military-industrial complex (MIC) and companies that, according to Washington, are involved in circumventing sanctions.

On the eve of February 20, US President Joe Biden visited Kyiv. During his visit, he announced the supply of additional weapons to Ukraine and announced new sanctions against Russian citizens and companies. The US Treasury should introduce restrictions by the end of this week, Biden said.

Today, February 21, the American leader spoke in Poland, where he also met with the President of the Republic, Andrzej Duda. Biden confirmedthat Washington and its allies will announce new sanctions against Russia this week.

The last time the United States imposed sanctions against Russian individuals and legal entities was on January 26. In particular, the restrictions touched Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov and Head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. Four companies owned by Vladimir Potanin’s Interros also fell under the sanctions.

In addition, on February 1, Washington imposed sanctions against citizens and companies from different countries, which, according to the US authorities, help to circumvent anti-Russian sanctions. The restrictions affected individuals and legal entities from Israel, Cyprus, Latvia, Singapore, Bulgaria, Uzbekistan, Italy and Russia.
