Wrestlers from Sakhalin won eight medals at the tournament in Blagoveshchensk

More than 300 athletes brought together an open regional freestyle wrestling tournament “New Year’s Cup” in Blagoveshchensk. Participants fought in three age groups, contesting the prizes of the Mashina club, the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region reported.
Tournament participants were young men and juniors from the Republics of Buryatia and Sakha (Yakutia), Zabaikalsky, Primorsky and Khabarovsk Territories, Jewish Autonomous, Amur, Sakhalin regions. The arrival of a good team of wrestlers from Mongolia gave a highlight to the competition.
The Sakhalin Region was represented by pupils of the Greco-Roman wrestling school of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the sports school named after. N.P. Karpenko Shakhtarska. The tournament lasted three days: on the first day, young men born in 2009-2011 fought, on the second – 2006-2008, and on the third – juniors 2003-2005.
Marat Goloev and Leonid Korchagin excelled in the junior age group. Marat won in the weight category up to 50 kg, and Leonid became the third winner in the weight up to 54 kg. Ruslan Maklakov (up to 55 kg) and Gasan Ramazanov (up to 65 kg) took third place in the 2006-2008 youth tournament. Sakhalin team won the greatest number of awards in fights of juniors under 21 (born in 2003-2005). The winners of the tournament were Daniil Fedorov (up to 57 kg), Boris Safonov (up to 61 kg), Vladimir Smirnov (up to 92 kg), and Alexei Pronin took second place (up to 65 kg).
By decision of the panel of judges, Boris Safonov was awarded a special prize “The best wrestler of the tournament”. He received a cash certificate.
