During a visit to Kyiv, the head of the CIA was informed about plans for a counteroffensive and negotiations with Russia
The Washington Post reported details of a secret visit by CIA chief William Burns to Kyiv. It took place in June.
According to the publication, President Zelensky and the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine told the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency about their plans for the coming months. In particular, Burns was informed about confidence in Ukraine’s “return” of significant territories by autumn, as well as the deployment of missile systems and artillery near the Crimea. Then in Kyiv they planned to move further east and only after that – to start negotiations.
According to the newspaper, a senior Ukrainian official said that Moscow would negotiate if it felt threatened.
Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that there were no prerequisites for conducting peace negotiations with Kiev, because the Ukrainian leadership absolutely excludes any movement towards peace.
