WP: slow counter-offensive overshadows the mood of Ukrainians and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Unsettling feelings are spreading across Ukraine over the slow counteroffensive, according to the Washington Post.

The article notes that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are not yet able to organize a quick counteroffensive against Russian positions, and this has had a negative impact on the general mood in the country. The publication highlights that Ukrainian officials and its Western allies relied on a successful counter-offensive, expecting that Western weapons would help the Ukrainian military turn the tide of the conflict.

However, two months after the start of the counter-offensive by Ukraine, visible progress on the front turned out to be insignificant, and the bloody and merciless summer caused an image of unity and endless determination to be broken.

The author of the article notes that Ukrainians, expecting good news and positive results, are faced with disappointment and a lack of visible victories at the front. Many citizens speak of “collective disappointment” when it comes to the UAF’s successes.

Interviewed soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who provided comments for the newspaper, noted that they feel oppressed due to the large losses among their comrades. At the same time, other Ukrainians expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that Kyiv residents visit restaurants and bars during the conflict.
