Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel leading Belgium for World Championship road race

Belgium will be the team to beat in the road race of the next World Road Cycling Championships, on September 25 in Wollongong (Australia). Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel will indeed be at the start of the event to try to put an end to the supremacy of Julian Alaphilippe, reigning two-time world champion.
The Belgian selection, presented this Tuesday in the offices of the national federation by coach Sven Vanthourenhout, plans to surround the two ogres of Jasper Stuyven, Nathan Van Hooydonck, Yves Lampaert, Quinten Hermans, Pieter Serry and Stan Dewulf. Note the absence of Dylan Teuns, winner of the Flèche Wallonne in the spring, and of Tiesj Benoot, victim of a heavy fall in training this summer.

Van Aert skips the clock
Van Aert, winner of three stages and the green jersey on the Tour in July, and more recently Bretagne Classicand Evenepoelcurrent leader of the Tour of Spain, will undoubtedly be among the big favorites in the road race, on a route for punchers. Van Aert, on the other hand, will ignore the time trial, leaving the two vacant places to the last two Belgian champions, Evenepoel (2022) and Lampaert (2021). Four reserves have been selected for the men: Jasper Philipsen, Greg Van Avermaet, Dries Van Gestel and Louis Vervaeke.
Lotte Kopecky, who will double time trial and road race, will be the leader of the women’s team. She will be surrounded during the Saturday race by Valérie Demey, Julie De Wilde, Justine Ghekiere, Jesse Vandenbulcke and Julie Van de Velde.
