A US resident was found to have a tapeworm in his brain.

A 52-year-old resident of the US state of Florida was found to have a worm in his brain. The man went to the hospital complaining of severe headaches, writes the American Journal of Case Reports.

Doctors assumed that the man had a migraine, but a computed tomography scan revealed a parasite infection of the brain: pig tapeworm larvae had formed cysts on both sides of the brain.

This unusual parasitic infection is called neurocysticercosis. The main cause of this disease is the consumption of undercooked and contaminated pork.

As it turned out, the American contracted neurocysticercosis from undercooked bacon, which he ate every day for breakfast.

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1,000 Americans are hospitalized due to neurocysticercosis each year.
