World Meteorological Organization calls extreme heat the new normal

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) climate expert Alvaro Silva believes that extreme heat in the world has become the new normal. So he commented that July was the hottest month on record and that in August the weather will not get better.
“This is the new normal and it does not come as a surprise. The frequency and intensity of many extreme events, such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall, have increased in recent decades,” said Mr Silva (cited by press officer WMO). According to the expert, there is a high probability that the main cause of climate change is human activity.
A number of European weather services issued a heat warning in the third week of August. WMO therefore stated the need to follow the warnings of meteorological and hydrological services for the safety of people.
