World Chess Championship in Astana: draw was entrusted to artificial intelligence

The opening ceremony of the World Chess Championship took place in the capital of Kazakhstan.
The ceremony ended with a draw for the first meeting of the tournament. As Minister of Sports Askhat Oralov noted, “the organizers approached it in an unconventional way: the color of the pieces that the chess players will play in the first match was determined by a special robot.”
The first game will take place on April 9th.
The World Chess Championship will last until May 1.
It is known that the championship will be visited by such eminent guests as FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, 14th world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik, 15th world chess champion Vishy Anand, 4-time world chess champion among women Hou Yifan, grandmasters Daniil Dubov , Viorel Bologan; female grandmaster, former Minister of Economy and Minister of Finance of Latvia Dana Reizniece-Ozola.
The championship will also include an international match between the women’s national teams of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the world (rapid and blitz), as well as the Future World Champions-2023 children’s tournament among boys and girls under 14 years old. This stage will determine the candidates for participation in the final of the Children’s Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan-2023.
And it will also become known who will receive the title of chess king – Ian Nepomniachtchi (FIDE) or Ding Liren (PRC).
