A woman from the Norwegian town of Valdrese found an ancient European currency – iron
The municipality of the Innlandet district in Norway said in its website about the amazing discovery of a dwelling house in the city of Valdres, who decided to clean up the basement of her parents’ house. Greta Margot Sørum found 32 iron ingots resembling chisels or screwdriver bits. Specialists who examined the rusty objects came to the conclusion that these artifacts could date back to the times of the Vikings or the Early Middle Ages.
Local state television and radio tellsthat Greta’s father found a piece of wrought iron when he was digging a well, decided not to throw it away. The ingots are elongated, on one side there is a hole in each of them – probably to string them on a thread or something like that. The weight of each bar is about 50 grams. Experts have suggested that they could be used as money.
