Winter All-Russian competitions in motocross will be held in Serpukhov

“Training in the winter is difficult, but it develops coordination and excellent skills,” says Dmitry Semenkovteam head coach “Red Wings”.

– Previously, there were no studded tires, and not everyone could drive uphill. There were some tricks – they cut the rubber, soaked it in diesel fuel to make it softer, – says our interlocutor.
Modern tires help athletes on the steepest snowy slopes. And this race is no exception. In 2023, the fifteenth anniversary motocross will take place in the village of Vasilyevskoye. The difficult geopolitical situation prevented this year’s competitions from being able to receive international status.

– In any case, my task as a coach and organizer is to hold the World Championship in Serpukhov, and we will do it!

Race on sports motorcycles is all-weather, the main competitions are held in the summer. And in winter it is spectacular, there is no dust, instead there is snow and ice.

– One of the main tasks is the preparation of the track, which takes 90% of the time. A month before the competition, we look at what the weather conditions will be; Based on this, we are building a route plan, – says Dmitry Semenkov.

– The track is full of jumps and explosive jumps, so the track cannot be cleaned with conventional equipment. We found a way out – we use UAZ, the wheels were modified with spikes from rubber for winter motocross. We attached a large shovel-ladle and clean the track. On such a machine, you can call on any climbs.

You don’t have to worry about the weather – the race will take place under any conditions. “Neither heat nor frost will cancel motocross”– so say the athletes. Most of the participants are children who go in for motorsports in sections. Without exaggeration, everyone can ride along the same track with young athletes.

— During the pandemic, many switched to motorcycles. As part of the competition, there will be a mass start, everyone can take part – from amateurs to professionals. For them, the route is simple, the race in winter is not 1.5 hours, as in summer, but reduced to 1.10.

To take part in motocross, on the day of the competition you must:

– provide the referee commission with a motorcycle inspection;
– provide a medical certificate and a policy of life and health insurance for athletes against accidents;
– make a registration fee.

Serpukhov will be represented by the Red Wings team (Zubrenok sports school), DOSAAF and other motorcycle clubs.

About 40 athletes are involved in motocross in the Red Wings team. 20 of them will perform.

— Dmitry, how do you motivate your pupils to win?

– The motivation is simple – you must always win at home. All guys will give 100%. Unfortunately, three strong athletes were injured during the New Year holidays – not on motorcycles, they are still recovering and will not be able to participate. I still hope that the guys will try and win in all classes!

To become champions, young motorcycle racers train three times a week, give their best. Four years ago, lighting was installed on the track, which allows you to train at any time, regardless of the length of daylight hours.

The age range of participants is impressive: motorcyclists from 5 to 70 years old will meet in the Red Wings.

– Dmitry, will you participate in motocross?

I’m already tired of winning (smiles – “MK”). I win every year, no one has “traversed” yet (Dmitry Semenkov – ten-time champion of the Red Wings Cup – MK). I did not prepare for this race, but I think I will participate.

However, participation in motocross is not only about personal victories. According to Dmitry, to feel the track you create is the key to a safe race for all athletes. For 15 years of the competition, the participants did not have a single serious injury.

– I try a new element on the track and pass on the experience to my students – we analyze all the nuances together. I am a tough coach, and not everyone can keep up with the pace. I don’t run, I don’t lift motorcycles for anyone – this is a disservice. Athletes must be able to do everything themselves in order to give their best at the decisive moment. Competitions are an exam, and here you can only rely on yourself.

Girls will also take part in the races. Everyone can conquer the snowy track, regardless of gender and age.

Girls are often more talented than boys. One of my pupils became a champion and moved to Germany, where she also wins prizes. She says that coaches from another country highly appreciated the training she went through at the Red Wings.

In winter, the female half is not singled out as a separate category – they will participate in country cross on an equal basis with everyone else.

In the discipline of motocross, juniors start first, then masters; Everyone participates in country cross – amateurs and professionals.

The geography of participants is impressive: applications have already been received from more than a hundred athletes from Moscow, St. Petersburg, the Moscow Region, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Tver, and Tula.

In parallel with the track with steep jumps, there is a simplified version of the track. For training and competitions in winter, tracks are used, the width of which meets federal standards. Jumping will be on the safest ski jumps.

An experienced panel of judges will work at motocross. Competitions are held with the support of the administration of the city of o. Serpukhov and the leadership of the Zubrenok sports school. Start at 11:00.

— The first motorcycle races were held in Serpukhov in the 30s of the last century. The track in Vasilievsky was opened in 1989, timed to coincide with the 650th anniversary of Serpukhov. According to sports veterans, at first the track looked like an enduro (off-road with logs, boulders and other obstacles), the riders drove through the forest. The competitions were large-scale, the track in Vasilievsky was conquered by eminent athletes.
Since then, the track has been constantly updated, this is strictly monitored by the organizers of the current race – the leadership of the Zubrenok sports school and the Red Wings base. To date, the track in Vasilyevsky meets all European standards.
