“Wind, rain and cold interfered with athletes”: the first throwing tournament of the year was held in Sochi

In Sochi, at the Yunost stadium, competitions in athletics throwing in memory of Anatoly Lunev were held. Athletes from the Krasnodar Territory won 10 awards at the tournament: 4 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze.

Anatoly Alekseevich Lunev, to whom the first throwing competitions in 2023 are dedicated, was a master of sports in javelin throw, for a long time he worked as the director of the sports school of the Dynamo society in athletics in Krasnodar.

Alexander Sinitsyn, the honored coach of Russia in athletics, who worked as a technical delegate, told more about the tournament for MK in Kuban.

– In total, there were over 170 participants in the competition, 5 age categories. This is the first start for throwers of the year. And the results are difficult to evaluate due to intervening weather. On the first day, when the young guys performed, we were more or less lucky with the weather. It was gloomy, but it did not rain and there was no strong wind. On the second day, older athletes competed, including adults. They have a strong wind rose, plus rain, cold. Believe me, not a single rain had passed since November, it was constantly warm in Adler. So the guys were in a fighting mood, but the weather made its own adjustments and objectively did not allow them to show high results, although there was a struggle in the sectors. Of our Kuban guys, we can note the victory of Boris Bezdolny in the javelin throw by a wide margin. In girls under 23, Valeria Putilina won in a sharp fight. The result is not high, because there was a terrible wind right “on the forehead”. It was not easy to run, but we still have to throw! And for refereeing difficult conditions, and for the participants. There are few judges, people spent 6 hours in the rain. The measurement was electronic, – said the coach.

Winner in javelin throw Boris Bezdolny (75.71 m) in adults, Valeria Putilina (49.91 m) among juniors up to 23 years old, Adam Abramov (48.00 m) among boys under 18, third places were taken by Karina Poludkina (up to 23 years old, 47.14 m) and Alexandra Litvinova (up to 20 years old, 36, 77 m). Won the hammer throw Angelina Litvinova (adults 63.12 m), third places were taken by Gleb Volik (adults, 63.93 m), Sergei Kharitonov (up to 20 years, 60.45 m). 2nd place in discus throw Natalya Karabintseva (adults 48.59 m), third Marina Grabko (up to 23 years old, 41.06 m). The Litvinov sisters from Sochi, all the rest represent Krasnodar.

Alexander Sinitsyn also spoke about the upcoming throwing competitions.

We have a busy calendar right now. 2 more throwing competitions will also be held in Sochi in the near future. On February 11-12, the Bogatyr tournament will take place. Rain is also promised, the main thing is that there should not be such a hurricane wind. And on February 20-22, the All-Russian competitions in long throws will be held. There will be more people there. I think 50-60 people will come.

The specialist also spoke about shot put competitions, which can be held indoors in winter.

– The traditional tournament “Russian Winter” in Moscow on February 10 this time will be held without pushers. On the other hand, the capital will host the Shot Put Festival on February 25. There will be many participants, from children to adults. A very solid prize fund has also been allocated. Among adults for prizes – 300, 200 and 100 thousand rubles. Plus and a few more places outside the podium will also be paid.

Alexander Sinitsyn spoke about his pupils, who can take part in this tournament.

– The multiple champion of Russia Alexander Lesnoy, unfortunately, did not have problems with his knee. It swells under heavy loads. The operation did not give the desired result. Sasha is going to perform in Moscow, but that’s where the leg will give. You can’t buy a new knee, you still have to think 100 times. And Natalia Troneva will participate. But the main start is the Russian indoor championship, which will take place in early March. It primarily affects the place in the national team, salaries. But, unfortunately, there will be no Russian championship in long throws, although it would be very necessary, – the famous coach concluded.
