Referees from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Belarus will work in the Russian football championship. This was announced by the Chairman of the RFU Judicial Committee Pavel Kamantsev. Kommersant FM sports commentator Vladimir Osipov asked why our football needs referees from other countries.
Our officials love to invite foreigners to Russian football. In the 2000s, for example, when serious money began to circulate in the championship, foreign referees were already coming to our country. Moreover, at that time these were eminent guests from Western Europe. For example, Florian Mayer from Germany.
At that time, football was led by Vitaly Mutko, who gladly paid foreigners €100 thousand per game. It is possible that some of the money was lost in the vast football world, but who counted it then? And here is a new round of history. Now, according to the Chairman of the RFU Judicial Committee Pavel Kamantsev, judges from other countries will come to us:
“An agreement was signed between the Russian Football Union and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation on cooperation in the field of refereeing, the exchange of elite FIFA referees and so-called promising referees who will serve the highest competitions of the RPL and, accordingly, the top league of Saudi Arabia. There will be two more countries with which we will conclude an agreement: Qatar and Belarus.”
The fees of future foreign arbitrators are still unknown. But will the Varangians from not the most football-producing countries be able to work without mistakes and save us from the scandals that arise in almost every round? The answer to this question is obvious, says football manager Yuri Belous:
“For the judges this is a kind of adventure. They arrived, had a cultural time in the sauna, some even, perhaps, with girls. They do not bear any responsibility for this. I don’t know what goal the Russian Football Union is pursuing. Of course, this is easier than raising the level of refereeing and creating academies. This is the policy that we had before: we will buy everything ourselves – if only we had the money. But life has shown that you can’t always buy everything yourself. I have an extremely negative attitude towards this.”
Of course, we were not told who was the initiator of this strange program for the exchange of judges, but it certainly could not have happened without the approval of the head of the judiciary. And this post in Russia is now occupied by the Serb Milorad Mazic. He was also called to save our football from problems. But so far Mazhich’s work has not led to a qualitative breakthrough. And, according to businessman and former owner of Spartak Andrei Chervichenko, it will not lead to:
“I immediately remember the proverb: they let the goat into the garden. Serbia is a poor country. I’m not sure that the Orthodox soul will not tremble before the proposals that may come here.”
By the way, we will see judges from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Belarus at RPL matches this year. So this issue is resolved, and the Russian Football Union will not delay this. Our arbitrators will also travel to work in friendly countries. Such trips are unlikely to improve their qualifications. But financial flows around judges will definitely increase. Perhaps this was the goal of the football officials.
