Wikipedia failure explained by DDoS attack

The outage of Wikipedia was linked to a DDoS attack. About this TASS told executive director of the Russian branch of Wikimedia (provides support for Wikipedia) Stanislav Kozlovsky.
He clarified that the servers of the Wikimedia Foundation, the owner of the service, were subjected to a DDoS attack.
“The Wikimedia Foundation witnessed a DDoS attack on its servers over the weekend that affected regular traffic on Wikimedia sites from parts of the US and Europe, including Russia. The Fund’s Website Reliability Group immediately took the necessary countermeasures to resolve the problem,” Kozlovsky quoted the company’s message as saying.
Previously, messages about failures in Wikipedia were recorded from users from the UK, Germany, USA, Finland, Sweden, Poland and France. Users from Russia also faced problems with Wikipedia. Most of the complaints came from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Krasnodar. Users did not load the site. Kozlovsky also earlier refuted messages about the blocking of the service in Russia.
