President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation Irina Viner said that Russian athletes should refuse to participate in the Olympic Games after the decision of the International Olympic Committee to suspend the national committee.
“I think we should be the first to refuse to participate in the Olympic Games. We are being squeezed and humiliated so much that I don’t see a positive outcome in which we will be able to perform,” Ms. Wiener told reporters (quoted by TASS).
She added that the IOC’s decision was expected. The day before he suspended The Russian Olympic Committee due to the inclusion of sports organizations from the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions.
As stated in the IOC decision, the ROC can no longer act as a national Olympic committee, and also does not have the right to receive funding from an international organization.
