Democrats and Republicans in the US Senate have expressed their support for further funding for assistance to Ukraine. This was stated by Assistant to the American President for National Security Jake Sullivan.
He noted that recent consultations with members of the Senate expressed strong bipartisan support for Ukraine and a reaffirmation of the US commitment to supporting Kyiv. Sullivan assured that both Republicans and Democrats share this position.
He also said that he plans to hold meetings with members of the US House of Representatives in the near future to discuss funding and support for Ukraine.
President Joe Biden’s administration has asked Congress for $40 billion in additional funding for fiscal year 2023. Of this amount, 13 billion is expected to be spent on emergency military assistance to Ukraine, and 8.5 billion to support the economy and security. The remainder of the funds will be used for various needs within the United States.
Pentagon officials also said they have about $6 billion available to provide military support to Ukraine.
