Where to go on May holidays

As shown by a survey conducted by VTsIOM, 56% of Russians will stay at home for these May holidays, and another 35% will go to the country.

This was announced during a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International News Agency devoted to the results obtained, said Kirill Rodin, director for work with public authorities of VTsIOM. Only 9% of respondents, he said, answered that they were going to go to another city or village in the Russian Federation. Moscow and the Republic of Tatarstan (Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny) are leaders among the directions of planned travel: 8% of the survey participants are going to go there. The second place is occupied by the Stavropol Territory (Stavropol, Kislovodsk, Mineralnye Vody, Pyatigorsk) and St. Petersburg with 6%. In third place with 3% are the Saratov region; Mari El Republic; Altai; Pskov, Ryazan and Volgograd regions. 2% of respondents plan to have a rest on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus; in Crimea – 2%; in other republics of the former USSR – 1%.

“Of those who do not go anywhere, 35% of Russians plan to garden or garden for the May holidays; 21% will work; 12% said they would spend time with family (children, grandchildren or relatives); 10% are going to sleep off; 9% plan to do household chores. If we talk about the breakdown of preferences by age categories, then the main summer residents in our country are people from 45 to 60 years old (among those who plan to garden or garden, this age cohort accounts for 68%). If we talk about those who are going to work, then these are mostly younger ages (from 18 to 44 years old). Mostly young people (from 18 to 34 years old) are also going to sleep off. Pensioners are not going to sleep off,” said Kirill Rodin.

Moreover, as the VTsIOM study showed, most often the residents of villages turn out to be inveterate stay-at-homes.

“This is largely due to the fact that these are people who live in the private sector and run their household, and it is stupid to ask them if they will go to the country. For them, the most relevant question is how to escape from this “dacha”. There are also many homebodies among non-working pensioners, non-working students and the unemployed. In these cases, a sedentary lifestyle is explained by limited financial opportunities, ”said the director for work with public authorities of VTsIOM.

Most often, Russians of active working age (from 35 to 44 years old), with a higher education and a good financial situation, go on trips. Basically, these are residents of two megacities – Moscow and St. Petersburg.

When asked how much you plan to spend on the upcoming May holidays for each family member, men and women answered differently: men – 20,400 rubles; women – 16 thousand 104 rubles. That is, men plan to walk on a wider scale, and women, apparently, will restrain them as much as they can, trying to somehow save the family budget.
