A decathlon without Mayer, with Ehammer
Kevin Mayer’s decathlon will have lasted 60 meters. Having felt a little pain in the left adductor during the 100 meters, the world champion in the discipline stopped his effort, abandoning his desire to double World-Europe. In his absence, as expected, the Swiss Simon Ehammer shone: 10”56 (+0.7 m/s) in the 100 m, 8.31 m (-1 m/s) in length and 14.24 m in the weight. He takes the lead after three events with 2845 points. The second Frenchman Baptiste Thiery is 18th with 2353 points.
Ninon Chapelle is injured
Ninon Chapelle will not compete in the final of the pole vault competition. The Frenchwoman was eliminated with 4.40 m, but above all, she injured her left foot on his second try at 4.50m by stumbling against the post and limping low leaving the stadium. In contrast, Margot Chevrier and Julie Bonnin got their ticket for the final crossing the same height. Two other French people got out of the qualifying trap: Jules Pommery in the length (7.83 m, -1 m/s) and Mallory Leconte, 3rd in his 100 m series in 11”49 (+0.2 m/s).
First marathon titles
The men’s and women’s marathons were contested in the city. Poland’s Alexandra Lisowska won in 2h28”36” (Mélody Julien, 14th in 2h32”19) while Germany’s Richard Ringer won the men’s title (2h10’21”) thanks to a devastating finish. The first Frenchman, Nicolas Navarro ranks fifth in 2h10’41”.
