What to plant in the country: plants

We receive considerable damage from insects, fungi and other natural pests that have gone out of human control or have fallen into a favorable habitat from other climatic latitudes. How to resist them and not lose the harvest? Which of the plants should be grown to help in the fight against pests, and which ones should be turned out of the gate? How to repulse these “enemies” of our work today and talk.

Everyone who is engaged in gardening, one way or another, has come across insect pests, which, if not dealt with, can easily be left without a crop. Many gardeners, especially inexperienced ones, run to specialized stores for help in order to buy funds there to help get rid of intruders.

Meanwhile, in the fight against them, there is a good alternative to chemistry – plants that have the smell of essential oil, which simply need to be planted on their site to combat many insect pests. And then healthy vegetables and juicy greens are provided to you.

Essential oils mask the smell of, for example, cabbage with their smell. And the pests will not be able to understand where they need to “land”.

Of course, you can buy ready-made oil at the pharmacy, any of these will suit you: cloves, eucalyptus, cedar, juniper, fir, citruses.

You can prepare a solution and spray the aisles. For a bucket of water, you will need 20 drops of essential oil and 50 grams of laundry soap. Soap is a necessary component, with it the aromatic substances will linger on the leaves longer. And without soap, the oil will not dissolve in water, but will float like a film on the surface.

And you can plant helper plants. For example, many pesky insects, garden flies and mosquitoes do not like the smell of odorous basil. And fresh basil is almost the main ingredient in almost every cuisine in the world. From the Greek language, the name “basil” is translated as “king”. Many of the healing properties of basil make it worthy of the highest ratings. So, basil has tonic properties, normalizes cardiac activity, quickly restores strength during intense physical and psychological stress, cleanses the kidneys.

Probably not a single garden plot can do without dill. Fresh dill goes into salads, and ripe umbrellas go into pickles. But dill is needed not only as a seasoning for dishes. The healing properties of this humble garden plant are widely used to treat anemia and improve bowel function. And in nursing mothers, dill decoction increases the amount of breast milk. Lotions of dill relieve eye inflammation. In addition, dill repels aphids, pumpkin beetles, spider mites, cabbage loopers, tomato hornfels and other insects.

Well, how not to say about garlic. It is perhaps the most popular seasoning in the preparation of various dishes. The sharp characteristic smell of garlic is fatal to many types of viruses and fungi, tuberculosis, and also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. But no less valuable are its pest-repellent properties. The smell of garlic is not tolerated by Japanese beetles, root grubs, carrot flies, snails and other pests.

Unlike humans, insects such as mosquitoes, flies, fleas, moths, and mites cannot stand the smell of lavender. Therefore, you should have this odorous plant in your area. And if you go to nature, just apply lavender oil to your skin, and then not a single bloodsucker will come close to you.

Marigolds, or marigolds, not only serve as a garden decoration, but also perfectly repel flying insects, butterflies and mosquitoes, and help resist nematodes (earthworms) that damage the roots of vegetable plants.

The healing properties of marigolds have long been used in medicine. In particular, these flowers are able to fight helminths and fungi, have a diuretic, decongestant and diaphoretic effect.

Mint is great for decorating and adding a unique taste to drinks and desserts. And mosquitoes, ants and spiders are afraid of its smell. Just put it in an open container where they are found, they will not like such a neighborhood. By the way, you can make a light refreshing drink, vitamin syrup, oil from mint (for use with headaches, runny nose, cough, etc.). And on the tables of restaurants in Europe you can often see bouquets of mint or lavender to scare away flies from food.

Petunia flowers not only decorate your garden, but also successfully repel tomato worms, aphids, beetles and many other garden pests.

Paired with cucumbers and cucurbits, tansy will help ward off some of your garden’s worst “saboteurs”, namely nematodes, the Colorado potato beetle, ticks, mice, ants, etc. It is also disliked by aphids, asparagus rattle, hawk caterpillars.

Another plant that can provide effective assistance in the fight against pests is celandine. Many of them do not like a decoction of its odorous leaves. And even just chopped celandine drives away pests. As soon as the first butterfly appears above the bed, I spread it over the entire plot in the aisle.

And do not neglect the advice on which plants should not be planted on the site, so as not to attract garden pests by their smell.

Many gardeners believe that such a neighborhood is not dangerous, as the plants take the hit, preferring the cultivated wild plant.

But this is not so, and here’s why: firstly, it attracts pests from the neighboring territory, and secondly, when they no longer have enough food on this tree, they will spread to the neighboring one.

This happens, for example, with bird cherry, on which, every 7-8 years, colonies of ermine aphids are born, eating all the green leaves under the “shroud” of the web.

In your garden, you should give up viburnum and acacia, young shoots, which really like hawthorn and flower beetle.

So it is better to refuse these plants in your garden.

And of course, in the fight against insect pests, you need to follow some rules:

• regularly inspect the tops of plants, branches of bushes and trees.
• pick off foci of infection (wrapped tops).
• pinch (tear off the tops of new shoots, it is painless for a bush, next year it will be even thicker).
• put things in order under the bushes and trees, do not let the ants arrange farms from aphids.
