Businessman Ruben Vardanyan announced his intention to renounce Russian citizenship and move to Nagorno-Karabakh amid the escalation of the conflict in the region. Details of his biography – in the material “Kommersant”.

Vardanyan Ruben Karlenovich was born on May 25, 1968 in Yerevan. In 1985 he moved to Russia. In 1992 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University. Passed business courses in Italy, France and the USA.

In 1991, he became one of the founders of the investment company Troika Dialog, in which he took the post of head of the department for the initial placement of securities. He was one of the first in Russia to receive a license to work on the stock market – under serial number 3. Since 1992, he headed Troika Dialog in various positions, the latter – chairman of the board of directors.

At the same time, in 2002-2004 he was the general director, in 2004-2005 he was the chairman of the board of directors of JSC Rosgosstrakh. He also headed the board of directors of the Armenian Ameriabank, was a member of the boards of directors of AvtoVAZ, KamAZ, NOVATEK, SIBUR Holding and Standard Bank. He was one of the founders and president of the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo (now a founding partner and member of the board of directors). He was a member of the Council for Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship under the government.

In 2011, Sberbank bought Troika Dialog for $1 billion, the company became part of the Sberbank of Russia group and began operating under the Sberbank CIB brand. After the sale of the company, Mr. Vardanyan until 2015 was a co-head of Sberbank CIB, an adviser to the president and chairman of the board of Sberbank.

Now Mr. Vardanyan is the president of Vardanyan, Broitman and Partners, co-founder of the RVVZ Foundation family fund.

He is actively involved in charity work, implemented several humanitarian projects in Armenia. He repeatedly spoke out in support of Nagorno-Karabakh. In October 2020, Mr. Vardanyan asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to help resolve the conflict.

In 2021, Forbes estimated the businessman’s fortune at $1 billion (116th place in the list of the richest people in Russia).
