Bortsov Nikolai Ivanovich was born on May 8, 1945 in the city of Lebedyan, Lipetsk region. In 1969 he graduated from the Michurinsk Technological College with a degree in equipment for the canning industry, in 1980 he graduated from the All-Russian Correspondence Institute of Finance and Economics with a degree in industrial planning.
At the age of 16, he began working as a loader at a pasta factory. After serving in the army, he became a mechanic at a winery in Lebedyan. After graduating from a technical school, he got a job at a tool factory, where he worked his way up to the head of the shop. In 1981, he headed the Lebedyansky cannery and made the enterprise one of the largest juice producers in Russia. By 2003, the plant ranked third in the Russian Federation in terms of juice production (brands “Tonus”, “Ya”, “Fruit Garden”, etc.).
In 2003 he was elected to the State Duma in a single-mandate district, in 2007, 2011, 2016 and 2021 he was re-elected from United Russia. In 2004, together with his son, he founded the Bortsovs Charity Fund, which financed the restoration and restoration of churches, helped war veterans and children’s institutions, allocated funds to support science and education. In 2008, the deputy and his partners sold 75.53% of Lebedyansky OJSC to PepsiCo for $1.36 billion. In 2022, he was included in Western sanctions lists for supporting a special operation in Ukraine.
