Taiwan’s Foreign Minister says a military conflict on the island would disrupt 40% of all world trade
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said a hypothetical war on the island would disrupt 40% of world trade. He voiced this alleged conclusion in an interview with the Spanish newspaper ABC.
The head of the department drew attention to the geographical position of Taiwan, noting that over 40% of the goods transported in the world cross the Taiwan Strait. “A war in Taiwan would disrupt more than 40% of world trade,” says Joseph Wu.
The diplomat also recalled that it is Taiwan that produces more than 60% of the world’s microcircuits and 90% of advanced semiconductors.
Wu took the opportunity to appeal to the United States through the media to “provide protective equipment and help train soldiers.” This, in his opinion, must be done in order for Taiwan to be “capable of defending itself.”
