On October 25–26 (November 7–8, new style), 1917, the October Revolution took place in Russia. The Day of the October Revolution began to be celebrated in 1918. On October 26, 1927, by order of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the CPSU, this event began to be celebrated for two days, November 7 and 8. They were not working.
Since 1918, military parades were regularly held in Moscow on Red Square on November 7 with the appearance of leaders on the podium of the Mausoleum. In addition, similar events and worker demonstrations took place throughout the country. The most memorable was the parade on November 7, 1941, the participants of which went straight from the square to the front.

Since 1992, November 8 has become a working day. In 1995, November 7 was established as Military Glory Day in honor of the 1941 military parade on Red Square. From 1996 to 2004, instead of the anniversary of the October Revolution, the Day of Harmony and Reconciliation was celebrated on this date. In 2005, November 7 ceased to be a day off. Instead, the holiday National Unity Day was established. It is celebrated on November 4th. November 7 in 2005 was declared a memorable date – the Day of the October Revolution of 1917.
What happened to the holiday in the republics of the former USSR
On Ukraine The anniversary of the October Revolution was celebrated until 2000. IN Kyrgyzstan The holiday remained until 2017, and then President Almazbek Atambayev declared November 7 and 8 as Days of History and Remembrance of Ancestors, in honor of the Turkestan uprising of 1916. IN Belarus The holiday was restored in 1995 and is still celebrated today. In addition, October Revolution Day is a public holiday in Transnistria.
