The second season of the continuation series of the Sex and the City saga “And Just Like That” has ended. “Kommersant Style” talks about why the series is interesting and why it is worth watching even for those who are far from the world of glamor and fashion trends.

The second season of the series “And Just Like That” caused, as expected, a lot of controversy, fashion analysis, criticism and just idle talk. First of all, its theme itself is scandalous – let us remember that the heroines, who fall in love from morning to evening, dress up, date, break up, hang out, have sex, are already approaching 60.

It’s not that anyone doubts the viability of this age, it’s just that, as usual, the screen picture is far from what we see and who we meet in reality. If after the release of the first season everyone was heatedly discussing who had changed since Sex and the City, now, in the second, we accepted all the age-related changes in the actresses, we allowed them (in fact, ourselves) to grow up and become overweight and wrinkles. But let’s not lie – the ladies look much better than their average peers, no matter what Sarah-Jessica says in an interview, claiming that she missed the ideal moment for plastic surgery and now loves herself for who she is. Or Kristin Davis, who endlessly repents before the people (the actress plays Charlotte York), who hastily removed all the fillers that made her face look like a pretty pillow after criticism of her.

However, fashion experiments, like the sex narrative, remained in the second season, and the creators began to place the main emphasis on them. Jokes about penises, trying on strap-ons, sex scenes and more – it seems naturalism to such an extent could have been avoided. With the fashion component, everything is predictable – almost all the images of the heroines smack of zero, because it is difficult today to imagine a person so carefully building up his wardrobe for going to a dinner on duty with friends or walking with a dog: hats, veils, handbags, hairstyles, heels, makeup, not a single gray hair strands or carelessly processed cuticles, everything is always absolutely perfect.

Today it is difficult to imagine an occasion for which women would try so hard (although perhaps a wedding?). The men in the series seem to be called upon to be the background of this entire dressed-up audience – the characters are dressed as neutrally as possible: jeans, classic jackets, discreet and often indistinct (justifiably in the case of Aidan Shaw) jumpers and jackets. However, with all this fashionable mothballs, there is one constant component, and it seems that the success of “And Just Like That” rests on it. Whatever Carrie Bradshaw appears in is doomed to success. Fashion analysts have been struggling with its formula for decades now, trying to at least explain or at most repeat (unsuccessfully) in other series the effect that Sarah-Carrie has on viewers. No matter how ridiculous or strange her outfits, accessories or hairstyles may be at first glance, all this instantly resonates with the audience. What is important is absolutely financially tangible: bags are swept off the shelves, and a record is written on models of dresses or shoes – everything is always sold out. The statistics of the analytical platform Lyst are indicative: after the release of one of the episodes of “And Just Like That,” in which Carrie appeared with a JW Anderson clutch in the shape of a dove, search queries for it increased by 488 percent.

The creators announced the renewal of the series for a third season, and we will see what the most fashionable images of the just ended were. Purely for inspiration, because globally this can be considered the main idea of ​​the series – life goes on, even if you missed something in it at some point.
