The reorganization of Vladimir Devyatov’s school led to its destruction.
Parents of students of the children’s folk singing music school under the direction of the People’s Artist of Russia, laureate of the State Prize, candidate of cultural studies, famous singer, performer of Russian folk songs Vladimir Devyatov addressed the editorial office with a letter. To date, there has been such a situation when it has become impossible to conduct training in this school. We consider it necessary to publish this appeal of the parents until the irreversible happens.
“In May 2022, we became aware of the reorganization of the music school. This caused concern, because the folk singing school of Vladimir Devyatov is the only music school located nearby. Others can be reached by two transports, and it takes 40-45 minutes. And you need to travel 3-4 times a week. We began to apply to all authorities in Moscow. We received answers that there was nothing to worry about, the school would not be closed, it was just a pure formality.
But in September we received a letter from the new leadership of the Center and the School of Vladimir Devyatov, which is the Folklore Center “Moscow”, that classes will begin in October, and in October, that classes will begin in November, and in November – in December. In December, they simply forgot about us. They didn’t even write anything. The children were left without a music school. Yes, it is possible to arrange a child in any paid circle, in any other school. But our school had a unique teaching staff. Not a single music school in Moscow has such a composition. In addition, it was not just a musical, but a folk singing school headed by the People’s Artist of Russia, singer Vladimir Devyatov. The children performed with him at many venues in Moscow. We studied, watched how a professional works on stage. It was a unique opportunity for children.
The Center for Russian Culture, Art and Education, under the leadership of Vladimir Devyatov, has been successfully and efficiently operating for more than 15 years. Vladimir Devyatov with his collective folk group “YaR-Marka” traveled to all corners of Russia and more than 50 countries of the world with tours. The Children’s Folk Singing School was the first stage of primary musical education, the next stage was the College. Gnesins and RAM them. Gnesins. Graduates of the school graduated and to this day study at the RAM. Gnesins at the department of solo folk singing. The teaching staff of the school included associate professors and teachers of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Gnesins and Moscow State University of Culture with more than 30 years of experience. To get into the School of Vladimir Devyatov, parents with children moved to Moscow from other cities. Education at the school was free. Moreover, children of different nationalities studied here.
On July 5, 2022, by decision of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow, the Vladimir Devyatov Center was reorganized by merging with the Folklore Center “Moscow”. The merger, according to the Department of Culture, “aimed at improving the financial and economic-administrative activities”, in our opinion, gave negative results. The very next day, the building of the V. Devyatov Center was sealed and de-energized. Free admission to the building of employees was terminated. The school and the Center remained on the street. All property remained in the building, most of which is the personal property of the artistic director of the Center and the School – Vladimir Devyatov. Desks, chairs, boards, instruments, office furniture, equipment, as well as stage costumes, soundtracks and rights to works were purchased, as far as we know, at the personal expense of the people’s artist, since they were not provided for in the budget.
As teachers told us, Vladimir Devyatov himself, the founder of the Center and School of the same name, was fired due to redundancy. The indefinite contract with him was terminated on July 6, 2022 by the decision of the Department. Of the fourteen teachers of the school-specialists of the leading universities of Russia, with unique experience, twelve were not hired. Key administrative positions (chief choirmaster, deputy director of studies, concert director), without which the work of the Center is impossible, were reduced, the remaining administration employees were dismissed. The creative team is being disbanded. Of the fifty-three employees of the Center and the School, fourteen remain today.
Traditional culture is the basis of the mentality of the nation. In these difficult days, when a wave of Russophobia is sweeping around the world, Russian writers, Russian composers are banned, Russian monuments are demolished, it is forbidden to speak Russian, in general they are trying to wipe everything Russian off the face of the earth, these days commitment to Russian traditions, especially Russian culture important. And 2022 was declared by the President of the Russian Federation as the Year of the Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of Russia.
From all of the above, many questions arise regarding the actions of the Moscow Department of Culture. So far, we have not received an intelligible and clear answer to them.
