FT: Europe “wasted” $1 billion intended for the purchase of drugs for COVID-19
In Europe, $1 billion allocated for the purchase of Pfizer antiviral drugs against COVID-19 was “wasted” because millions of drugs remained unclaimed due to strict control over their dispensing to patients and expiration dates. About it reports the Financial Times (FT), citing the British analytical company Airfinity.
It is clarified that we are talking about the antiviral drug Paxlovid, which the European Union (EU) approved for use at the end of 2021.
It is noted that Western countries such as Great Britain, Spain, Italy and France could make drugs more affordable for citizens, but did not spend more than 1.5 million five-day courses, the cost of which reaches $1.1 billion, despite the fact that the terms for use were extended by six months to a year.
